Programs
OurPrograms
WeeCycle has two main programs: Our Essential Baby Gear Program includes partner orders, Mobile Baby Essentials distributions and the WeeCycle Diaper Bank. Our Environmental Preservation program includes car seat and textile recycling and Clothing for All.
Essential Baby GearProgram
Essential Baby Gear is WeeCycle’s original and primary program that provides free essential baby gear such as car seats, strollers, cribs, formula, diapers, safety gates and more to low-income families through a network of partner organizations.
Distribution of diapers, wipes and other essentials
At our Mobile Baby Essentials distribution events WeeCycle provides accessible services to families across the Denver-metro area and beyond to further WeeCycle’s reach to directly serve families most in need. Through this program, WeeCycle visits targeted, underserved and under-resourced communities and distributes needed items including; infant and toddler-specific meals of baby food and formula, diapers, wipes and other needed items specific to the distribution location. We partner with food banks for these events so that families are able to access food for the older members of their family as well.
WeeCycle Diaper Bank
The WeeCycle Diaper Bank Program was established in 2018 as a result of the significant amount of requests for diapering supplies. The Diaper Bank Program supplies diapers to all of WeeCycle’s programs and also provides bulk diapers to a network of more than 150 partner organizations throughout the state of Colorado.
Find baby gear and additional support through our partners
WeeCycle partners with individual families and local businesses to obtain baby gear and essential items. The baby gear is distributed each week through partnerships with local community nonprofits.
Environmental PreservationProgram
WeeCycle’s Environmental Preservation program keeps thousands of pounds of consumer goods out of landfills by recycling and reusing them. This program also houses the Car Seat Recycling and Clothing for All programs.
If an item is unusable, WeeCycle has created outlets for recycling many items including:
- Unusable textiles are recycled through local partnerships and breast pumps are recycled with Techno Rescue
- Recalled boppy pillows and small bassinet mattresses are given to animal shelters
- We are continually looking for creative ways to repurpose items that we are not able to recycle or redistribute.
- Unusable shoes are donated to Soles4Souls.
- Unusable car seats are recycled in partnership with CDOT and the Colorado State Patrol
Car seat and textile recycling
The car seats are brought to a recycling center where they are mixed in with all the other daily drop-offs (mainly cars and scrap metal) and then sent through a large shredder. The pieces are broken down and sent into another shredder reducing the size of the material to about the size of a dollar bill or less. They are transported by conveyor belts into a building of sorters. The sorters are programmed to read the materials coming in and sorts them accordingly. Plastics, metals, and waste. The materials that can be recycled are shipped off and sold to become new products. The remainder that cannot be recycled is refined into almost a powder-like material that is used by the landfills to stop the off-gassing of methane that occurs by laying this material down after each day as required by law.
Gently used clothing for all
WeeCycle’s Clothing for All Program encourages our supporters, regardless of ability to buy new clothing, to make the intentional choice to reuse gently used clothing whenever possible to live more sustainably and benefit the environment. Check out our calendar for a full list of upcoming Clothing for All events.
